However, what stood out was the fact the prayer was organised next to a church at a community ground in Aizawl, the capital of Christian-majority Mizoram.

Every year on Eid, Muslim faithfuls in the hill state of Mizoram would come together at this spot to offer their prayers. The High School ground is located at Zarkawt, which is 15 minutes from the Aizawl mosque.

The mosque, established in 1909, is quite small to accommodate large gatherings. So, it is primarily used for Friday prayers.

The High School field is a public space and requires permission from the authorities concerned for its usage. It is given freely to Muslims and other faiths for religious congregations.

The beauty lies in the location of this space, which is next to a church. This shows the tolerance of different faiths in the Christian-dominated state. The state has never witnessed violence between the Christian and Muslim communities.

Muslims make up only about 1.3% of the population of Mizoram.

Eid-al-Adha, also called the 'festival of the sacrifice', is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year -- the other being Eid al-Fitr, and considered the holier of the two.
