Keep off cell phones, girls warned

They were also directed to cover their heads while going out of home.

Girls seem to be at the receiving end these days.

After Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, a village council in Rajasthan has prohibited girls from carrying mobile phones.

The council in Kishorpura village of Jhunjhunu district also directed them to cover their heads when going out of home.

"The panchayat recently held a general meeting in which village elders expressed the view that mobile phones were spoiling girls," said Bimla Meena, the village head.

She said he girls have also been directed to wear proper clothes which would make them look decent.

The village head did not specify the punishment to be meted out to any girl found flouting the panchayat's edicts.

Most villagers agreed with the council’s order, she claimed.

In July, a village council in Bhagpat district of Uttar Pradesh banned love marriages and young women from using mobile phones.

In August, unknown militant outfits in Kashmir warned that girls would be shot dead if seen using mobile phones in public.
